Effective youth interventions

All professionals engaged in tackling problems regarding young people want their work to be effective. This applies to everyone employed in youth welfare, prevention, education and youth care. But policymakers, managers and financiers in these fields also want to know which activities and programmes are effective. In the not too distant future in the Netherlands only those methods will be eligible for funding that are demonstrably effective. In short, there is no getting round the theme effectiveness.

The Netherlands Youth Institute provides information on its website on the various ways of preventing and tackling problems of children and young people and on their effectiveness. It gives access to a database which contains descriptions of interventions carried out by institutions in the field of youth care, youth health care, youth welfare and juvenile criminal law. Thus the database provides a survey of the available interventions and the extent to which they are effective.
